Stroke Talks - You Look Fine… But Are You Really?

The Mamas and Coffee Newsletter
Real Life. Real Conversations. Real Stroke Stories That Matter.
Hey FABulous Reader,
Let’s talk about something that doesn’t get talked about enough!
The parts of a stroke that no one can see.
Because if we’re being real, most people only recognize a stroke survivor by the physical signs. The limp, the speech, the visible changes. But what about the things that don’t show up on the outside?
The brain fog. The mental exhaustion. The emotional ups and downs. The difficulties with planning/problem-solving, spatial neglect, and more. The moments where you’re trying to explain what you’re feeling and all you hear is… “But you look fine.”
And that’s exactly why we’re having this conversation.
💜 Stroke Talks Mingle Monday: Hidden Deficits
This Mingle Monday, we’re creating space for the real side of stroke recovery—the side that often gets dismissed or misunderstood.
This is a space where:
You don’t have to explain yourself
You don’t have to prove anything
You don’t have to “look” like what people expect a stroke survivor to be
You can come share your experience… or just sit back and listen. Either way, you’ll be surrounded by people who truly get it.
When: Monday, May 4
Time: 1 PM - 2 PM ET
Where: Zoom (this is a private event. It is NOT recorded nor streamed anywhere. You must register to attend)
Cost: FREE (made possible by my Buy Me A Coffee Supporters)
And let me say this! This space is NOT just for stroke warriors.
If you’re a caregiver, family member, friend, or someone who simply wants to better understand what a stroke survivor may be experiencing, I encourage you to join us.
Because understanding the hidden side of stroke? That’s how we show up better for the people we love.
Why This Matters
Because being told “you look fine” can feel like your experience is being minimized.
Because hidden deficits are real.
Because sometimes the hardest battles are the ones no one else can see.
And because you deserve to be heard fully.
Come Join Us
If this speaks to you, I’d love to have you in the room.
Let’s connect. Let’s talk. Let’s remind each other that we’re not alone in this journey.
Stroke Talks is for stroke warriors, family members, caregivers, friends, and anyone who wants to hear and have REAL conversations about stroke.
This isn’t about perfect stories or polished experiences. It’s about honesty. It’s about connection. It’s about sitting in a space where you can say, “This is hard,” and someone else gets it.
Every interview, every virtual event, and every small group session is about bringing people together—peer-to-peer to share, listen, and support one another.
Because sometimes, you don’t need solutions. You just need someone who understands.
It helps me reach more people, share more stories, and continue offering free interviews and small group sessions for those who need it most. Because right now, this mission is fully funded by me and fueled by purpose (and coffee ☕).
