The Mamas and Coffee Newsletter
Real Life. Real Conversations. Real Stroke Stories That Matter.
Hey FABulous Reader,
So we went LIVE for The Mamas and Coffee Show and yeah we had QUESTIONS & shared our perspectives.
Because when did all this change?! Back in MY day (and yes, I’m saying that proudly, sounding like my mama remembering how I used to ear hustle her and her friends talk sitting on the porch on a hot summer night.), prom was junior/senior year, and graduation was when you finished high school. Now? Kindergarten got caps & gowns, middle school got ceremonies, and somehow… prom is showing up EARLIER for the kids.
So I had to ask… are we graduating… or just moving on?
🎓 Real talk…
I said it on the LIVE and I meant it: “Girl… you ain’t graduating. You passed to the next grade.” 😂
I’m all for celebrating our kids. Go out, get ice cream, do your thing. But a whole graduation for EVERYTHING? What makes senior year feel special then? Because THAT is the real milestone. Period.
💃🏽 And let’s talk about these “mini proms”…
Now wait a minute… when did the school dance turn into prom?!
Middle school I can kinda see… maybe… but elementary? Preschool?! Prom… or just a dance with good lighting? 😭 And if we’re starting all this early… what are they looking forward to later?
👀 This part right here…
Grace said something that had me like… hold on… “Everybody wants to be included—even when it’s not their time.” Whew.
Are we letting kids enjoy their stage… or are we rushing them through it?
📸 And don’t even get me started on the pressure…
Promposals. Photoshoots. Outfits. Parties.
Let’s be honest, are we doing this for the kids or for social media?
And the prom dress debate?!
Girls are being turned away because their dress is “inappropriate.” So let’s ask, who decides that? The school? The parent? Or just somebody’s opinion that day? Watch the short clip here and hear Grace's take.
And hey! We’re not done with this conversation. We’re doing a WHOLE episode on what’s deemed “appropriate” for our young ladies. Because guess what? Grace and I are BOTH moms of girls. And yes… I have A LOT to say about it.
And when that episode drops? Just know… I said, what I said!!! Because there have been times I've said, "Well, what about the young man's responsibility and self-respect?" And we're going to talk about it!
But yes... Watch the complete 30 minute episode HERE!Can't sit and watch it? That's ok, just play it in the background as you go about your day.
There Ain’t No Way Segment (Grace came through 👏🏽)
Go to your local library. Books, games, activities… and you saving REAL money.
Listen… with these prom and graduation expenses? You might need that tip 😏

Why Stroke Talks Exists
Stroke Talks is for stroke warriors, family members, caregivers, friends, and anyone who wants to hear and have REAL conversations about stroke.
This isn’t about perfect stories or polished experiences. It’s about honesty. It’s about connection. It’s about sitting in a space where you can say, “This is hard,” and someone else gets it.
Every interview, every virtual event, and every small group session is about bringing people together—peer to peer to share, listen, and support one another.
Because sometimes, you don’t need solutions. You just need someone who understands.
Want to Help Me Keep This Going? ☕
If this story or any story I’ve shared has ever made you feel seen, encouraged, or just a little less alone.
It helps me reach more people, share more stories, and continue offering free interviews and small group sessions for those who need it most. Because right now, this mission is fully funded by me and fueled by purpose (and coffee ☕).

It’s FREE, but seats are limited, so grab your spot and invite someone who needs this space too 💜
Date is coming soon!!! Stay tuned. It's going to be FABulous!!!
So as I close out this weeks newsletter, I want to remind everyone to remember six simple words as you start your week. Know You. Be You. Love You!®
