The Fear of Another Stroke Is Real

Hey Reader,

Our last Mingle Monday was filled with honesty, encouragement, and plenty of “me too” moments.

We talked about how stroke can change friendships, daily life, and even the way we see ourselves. Some friends show up, some quietly disappear, and others simply don’t understand that recovery doesn’t end when we leave the hospital.

We also discussed speech challenges, invisible struggles, social isolation, and the comfort of connecting with fellow stroke warriors who truly understand.

Thank you to everyone who joined me and shared so openly. These conversations remind us that none of us has to navigate life after stroke alone. And let me just say, this conversation and lovely faces made my day and week. Thank you!

Our next Mingle Monday conversation is:

The Fear of It Happening Again

That strange headache. A dizzy spell. A word that doesn’t come out correctly. A sensation that makes you stop and wonder, “Is this happening again?”

The fear of another stroke is real, and it can affect how we sleep, travel, socialize, and live our everyday lives. During our next conversation, we’ll talk honestly about recurrence anxiety, medical triggers, and how we keep living without allowing fear to control every moment. Or maybe you're like me and not actively thinking about another stroke, but your body is keeping score and nudges your nervous system into overdrive.

There’s no pressure to speak. You’re welcome to share, listen, or just simply spend time with people who understand.

My Journey with Anxiety After Stroke

Social settings, once enjoyable, became places of discomfort. Regulating my emotions felt like a battle I was constantly losing. Irritability, anger, and oh so many more reactions and emotions that were abnormal for me.
